ABYSS Free

The Last Night of the Titania

The ABYSS title screen: the Captain standing at the far end of a dark passage on G deck
Every time the lamps come back, he is closer

You wake up in Cabin 47. The ship is going down in the worst water on earth, and the boat deck is nine decks above you.

Every deck between is a maze, and every one of them is flooding. The drowned are walking the passages. And somewhere on the way up is the Captain, who does not let anyone leave his ship.

Get caught anywhere, and you wake up in Cabin 47 again.

    What's down there

You are not alone down there.

Every one of them gives you a moment when it notices you. That is your moment to turn and run.

The Captain: a skull face with red eyes under an officer's cap

    The Captain

The master of the ship, and of everything on it. He gets closer every time you see him:

    1. He watches you from the end of a passage.
    2. He gets up from the head of his table.
    3. He hunts you round the Grand Staircase, a bell tolling closer.
    4. On the boat deck he comes out behind you, with everything you got past.
A runner: one of the drowned, standing in a dark passage

    Runners

They wait in the dead ends. Once one sees you, it is faster than you can walk.

A shambler: a drowned face in the dark

    Shamblers

Slow. But they hold on, and they drag you under. Shove them off.

A crawler, low on the deck on all fours

    Crawlers

On all fours, in bursts. They go for your legs.

The stoker, lit red by the furnaces

    The Stoker

Boiler Room 6. The fires are still lit. He never stops once he has seen you.

    The butcher, cleaver raised

    The Butcher

The galley is still serving. He is barely slower than you walk.

The dining saloon: tables in the gloom, every seat taken

    The Diners

Every seat is taken. They only move while you are not looking at them.

    The woman in the nightdress

    The Woman

In her nightdress, on C deck. Wherever you are going, she is there first.

A figure flat against the deckhead of a passage

    On the ceiling

Flat against the deckhead, face down. They drop once you have passed.
